Jorge Luis Alio was born in José C. Paz, a city in the Greater Buenos Aires urban area of Argentina, on February 2nd, 1967. He studied at the National Superior School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredon from 1985 to 1989. He began to participate in various group exhibitions while still in school, with his first solo show in 1990. Since 1991 he has worked as a drawing teacher in several different primary schools, and their expressive drawings came to influence his own work, integrating childish iconography and freedom of movement into his pieces. In the late 1990s he turned his interests to fashion, and spent two years taking courses in fashion design. This also fed into his technique, and made the feminine form central to his pieces both metaphorically and representationally. In the 2000s he became interested in theater and tango dance, taking classes in both disciplines which he continues today. His work now demonstrates an alternating focus on improvisation and detailed research for each piece, and he uses multiple materials to create the lines of his figures. His work can be seen in museums throughout Latin America, and can be found in private collections from Italy to Japan.
