Jorge Blanco (b 1945) American, Mixed Media. Archival inks on paper with illustration and signature and a unique edition. Depicting a man leaning against a palm tree reading a book with his feet propped up on a desk, which has a computer, a paper reading SOS, some bottles with rollled up papers reading SOS, and a sign above that says SALE www.sos.com. There are also some empty bottles to the left of him, leading us to believe he is creating these bottles and selling them online (which is funny because he is on a deserted island). Numbered 1/1 in the lower left, signed in the lower right. There is a special drawing in the lower middle.

This is from Jorge Blanco's 'Castaway Series' (1980-1989). When in Venezuela, Blanco contributed to the newspaper El Diario de Caracas, by creating a comic El Naufrago (The Castaway) where he shows a man alone on a deserted island doing different things. The Castaway series is a great escape from the serious realities of the world.
