Portrait of a Scottsman in a Country Setting, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right. John Watson Nicol was the son of Scottish painter Erskine Nicol who trained with John Pettie and likely with his father also. He was elected to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1888.
