John Joseph Enneking (1841–1916) was an American Impressionist painter best known for his luminous New England landscapes. Born in Minster, Ohio, he studied in Europe—particularly in Munich and Paris—before settling in Massachusetts, where he became a leading figure in Boston’s art community. Enneking was celebrated for his atmospheric depictions of forests, rivers, and winter scenes, often capturing subtle effects of light and season. A founding member of the Boston Art Club, he played an important role in advancing Impressionism in the United States.
