Painter and printmaker John Chious was born in Chicago in 1940. He demonstrated an early interest in art, winning his first contest at age nine. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and went on to have a flourishing career as an art dealer and artist. Attracted to Southern California because of its warmth and diversity, he moved to San Diego in the 1970s. Here he drew inspiration from nature’s forms, shapes and colors, exploring artistic interpretations of his environment. John’s works are seen in corporate art collections such as IBM, Xerox, Motorola, Bank of America, and other major companies. Many private collectors have also purchased his works, and his art is displayed in galleries throughout the US, Canada and Europe. Through his art, John continues to explore the graphic world rendered in abstract form. His current work leans toward the non-objective and a rediscovery of color.
