John Baeder (b. 1938) is an American photorealist painter celebrated for his meticulous depictions of roadside diners and mid-century Americana. Born in South Bend, Indiana, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Baeder's fascination with American roadside culture began during his youth, influenced by train travels and early photography. After studying at Auburn University, he pursued a successful career in advertising before transitioning to full-time painting in 1972. Baeder's works, characterized by their nostalgic yet precise portrayal of diners, gas stations, and motels, serve as both artistic expressions and historical documentation of a vanishing American landscape. His paintings have been exhibited widely and are included in numerous public and private collections, underscoring his significant contribution to American art and cultural preservation.
