"St. Ives", and other boats beached with the tide. Oil on canvas, signed lower right and titled verso. Born in Staffordshire, John Ambrose loved art as a child, and was formally trained in art in the West Midlands. After many vacations in Cornwall, he eventually rented a cottage and studio in the area and spent the next 30 years living and working there. John Ambrose's oil paintings of the Cornish sea and Venice waterways, which he created during trips to Italy, exquisitely capture the movement of the water and the atmosphere through his skilled use of color.
