Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683–1741) was a German pharmacist, botanist, and botanical publisher best known for his pioneering work in botanical illustration. Born in Gardelegen, Germany, he became a respected apothecary and later established a successful pharmacy in Regensburg. His greatest achievement was the publication of Phytanthoza Iconographia, an ambitious eight-volume collection of more than 4,000 plant illustrations that was among the earliest botanical books to use color-printed plates. Although Weinmann did not create all of the artwork himself, he organized the project and collaborated with artists and engravers, helping advance botanical documentation during the Enlightenment. His work remains historically significant for its detailed depictions of plants and its contribution to the development of scientific illustration.
