Johann Gottfried Steffan was a swiss painter alive from 1815-1905. At the age of 16, Steffan completed an apprenticeship in lithography. After that, he traveled to Munich for further training, and made numerous trips to the mountains with friends. Steffan's compositions are characterized by a pleasing and naturalistic conception, which was already very well received during the artist's lifetime. He is known best for his landscapes and figure in landscape paintings.
