Joseph Oriolo (1913-1985) was an American cartoon animator, writer, director and producer, known as the co-creator of Casper the Friendly Ghost and the creator of the Felix the Cat TV series. He also provided the voice of the Italian barber in Gulliver's Travels, and worked mainly independently as an artist after leaving Fleischer studios, a very different tactic than most of his contemporaries. 

Sericel, or Serigraphic Cel, is a type of animation art that is a silk-screened print on clear plastic or acetate that resembles a painted cel. The process for making sericels is similar to silk-screening t-shirts. Line work for sericels is xeroxed, and paintwork is printed on the reverse side of the cel. Each color is silk-screened onto the acetate cel individually, and a single sericel can contain 10-50 colors. This time-consuming process can result in a beautiful piece of art that accurately reproduces the original's details and magic.
