Joanna Zjawinska was born in 1950 in a small Polish mining town, and began painting at an early age, first earning a Bachelor’s degree from the Warsaw School of Architecture before finding her true love at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, obtaining a Master’s in Graphic Design. In 1979 she moved to New York to pursue a full-time art career, with her expressive oils and watercolors quickly gaining attention for their high translucence and fantastical imagery. Today she works from a home studio in San Francisco, California, with her works represented in the National Museum in Torun, Poland and the Polish Institute of New York, and can be found in many public and private collections around the United States.
