Joan Mary Turner (née Kleboe) was born on January 27th, 1927 in Great Bookham, Surrey, England. She served in the Women’s Royal Airforce, nursing soldiers during World War II, where she met and married James Aloysius Mullany who died in 1948 after giving her one daughter. She remarried to Edwin Stanley Turner in 1949 and the family moved to Canada, settling in Guelph, Ontario. While raising two more daughters she first became fascinated by art and spent much of her later life traveling the world, inspired by wildlife, nature, and mankind’s many achievements in her watercolors, oils, and pastels. From her sixties onward she divided her time between life in Guelph and in Sarasota, Florida, where she won several awards for her work, and was commissioned to design a stained-glass window depicting a life-sized study of the Virgin and Christ Child for St. James Anglican Church’s Lady Altar in Guelph. She passed away on December 20th, 2025, and her pieces hang in homes and collections around the globe.
