Jesús Mecko Casaus (1926-2002) was a Spanish figurative painter born in Barcelona in 1926, celebrated for his vibrant use of color and expressive depictions of maritime life, European ports, urban landscapes, and the human figure. Trained at the Baixas Academy and the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, he later refined his artistic vision in Paris, where he was influenced by Fauvism and the work of painter Albert Marquet. Casaus became particularly known for his evocative scenes of Barcelona and the fishing village of Cudillero, which became a recurring subject throughout his career. His work was exhibited internationally across Europe and the Americas, earning numerous awards and recognition for its rich chromatic intensity and distinctive Mediterranean character. Following his death in 2002, his legacy has been honored through retrospective exhibitions and an annual national painting competition bearing his name in Cudillero.
