Celebrated soprano, Jenny Lind (1820-1887), was known as the Swedish Nightingale. Under the management of impresario P. T. Barnum, she became the most renowned and highly paid singer of her day. She made her American debut in New York City on October 24, 1850 and continued her tour until 1852. In February of that year, Lind married musician Otto Goldschmidt in Boston.
