Jennifer Knaus was born in California in 1963 and was drawn to art at a young age, obtaining her Bachelors from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1985. Originally focused on still lifes in oils and acrylics on panel and canvas, she began to explore surrealism and shifted her style while attending the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine in 1991. Returning to California, she acquired her Masters from the University of California, Davis the following year, and gained national recognition for her unique surreal portraits incorporating botanical elements in modernist “green man” paintings. She relocated to Connecticut in 1994 to become a professor at Central Connecticut State University, where she continues to paint and inspire new generations of artists to this day.
