Although Whiteface Mountain is entirely in New York, it is the 5th largest mountain in the state and one of the highest peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Across Lake Champlain, it is clearly visible from the coast of Vermont, a stunning natural wonder of towering igneous rock, a testament to the geological volatility that formed the range millions of years ago. This painting captures the mountain in stunning bluish hues, likely in the fall or winter when the foliage has been stripped from the trees in the foreground.
