Jean Marais (1913–1998) was a French actor, director, and artist known for his collaborations with filmmaker Jean Cocteau, starring in films such as Beauty and the Beast (1946) and Orpheus (1950). Beyond acting, Marais was a talented sculptor and painter, creating works that reflected his classical and fantastical sensibilities. His artistic pursuits extended to ceramics and theater set design, showcasing his versatility. Though best remembered for his cinematic roles, his contributions to the arts spanned multiple disciplines, cementing his status as a multifaceted creative figure in 20th-century France.
