Jean Blackburn is a contemporary American painter, printmaker, photographer, and naturalist based on Florida’s Gulf Coast. A third-generation Floridian raised on Anna Maria Island, her work is deeply rooted in the state’s coastal and inland ecosystems, especially the waterways and landscapes of places like Myakka. She holds degrees from the University of Florida, the State College of Florida, and an MFA from the University of Oregon, and has taught at institutions including Ringling College of Art and Design and New College of Florida. Blackburn’s practice blends careful observation with expressive interpretation, often exploring the intersection of art and environmental awareness, informed by her roles as a certified Master Gardener and Master Naturalist and her involvement with regional conservation organizations. Her work has been widely exhibited across Florida and beyond, and is held in both public and private collections.
