Japanese Otagiri Mercantile Company Cast Iron Pagoda Incense Burner. Five layers to the structure can be disconnected from the base, where the burning incense would go and filter through the holes in each level. Paper label on the underside reads "OMC Japan."
Size: 3 x 3 x 6 1/4 in.
The Otagiri Mercantile Company (OMC) was a major Japanese importer and manufacturer of high-quality handcrafted ceramics and giftware that operated from roughly 1954 to 1994. Otagiri was headquartered in San Francisco but had home offices in Tokyo and Nagoya, manufacturing their artisanal wares across various Japanese kilns. Today, their mid century pieces are particularly collectible, ranging from detailed stoneware Tiki mugs to beautifully hand-painted vases and music boxes in porcelain.
