Baron Wolman Career: In April 1967, in San Francisco, a 30-year-old photographer named Baron Wolman crossed paths with a 21-year-old student and writer, Jann Wenner. Wenner, along with San Francisco Chronicle music writer Ralph Gleason, had plans to create a groundbreaking music publication. Wolman agreed to join the venture, which eventually became Rolling Stone magazine, working without compensation. Importantly, he stipulated that he would retain ownership of all the photographs he took, allowing the magazine unrestricted use of the images. Wolman's work became integral to Rolling Stone's inaugural issue and subsequent editions for three years. His unique access to iconic musicians such as Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and others made his photographs the visual centerpieces of Rolling Stone's layout during that time.
Unlimited Prints of this image can be purchased today directly from the artists company, but this limited edition print is more rare and in excellent condition.
