Jane Allensworth (1937–2023) was an American abstract artist whose work explored the metaphysical effects of color and form. Born in Marshall, Missouri, she initially pursued a career in medical research before transitioning to art. Allensworth studied painting at the Art Students League in New York City and at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts School, under the guidance of Dorothy Hood. Her career was rooted in South Texas, with notable exhibitions at Tibor de Nagy's Houston gallery, the Galveston Arts Center, and Women and Their Work in Austin. Allensworth's preferred medium was acrylic, which she used to create luminous veils of color, often employing masking techniques and graphite to introduce sharp surface markings. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at McClain Gallery in Houston and Seven Sisters Gallery, and her pieces are held in various private collections. Allensworth's art continues to be celebrated for its innovative approach to color and form.
