Johannes Paulus Arnoldus Carolus van Erp (known simply as Jan van Erp) was born in The Hague on February 8th, 1914. From an early age he developed an interest in ceramics, studying them at local art academies. He survived the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, and in 1946 he moved to Waalre in North Brabant and started a ceramics workshop that specialized in art pieces. He and several other artisans produced primarily ornamental and drinking items, including bowls, cups, saucers, and wall-hanging plaques. He ran the studio until 1974, after which he left the business to an employee until the company went bankrupt in early 1980. Van Erp passed away on April 9th, 1989 in Eindhoven.
