James Pratt was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1944. Intrigued by art, he sought out all he could in the small Pacific country, but eventually moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s to chase his dream of becoming a professional artist. He is now known for his vibrant paintings, often created using just a palette knife instead of brushes which gives his work a textured and lively feel, frequently depicting scenes from his travels throughout Europe of villages, marketplaces, seaports, and cafes. After becoming an American citizen he and his wife and children moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where he maintains a home studio offering private classes to this day. He found representation with Park West and Cadogan Tate Fine Art, and became a featured artist on Princess Cruise Lines, showcasing his talent while exploring the world. Today he has a second home studio in southern France, and continues to produce highly sought after paintings that can be found in countless private and corporate collections.
