American landscape and fine artist James O’Neil graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1977. Following his graduation, he refined his craft at the Gloucester Academy of Fine Art under the direction of John Terilac from 1978 to 1979. Early in his career, he became an active member of the Rockport Art Association, earning several awards in juried exhibitions and holding his first one-man show there. Between 1981 and 1988, O’Neil lived and worked in Truro on Cape Cod, routinely displaying his paintings through regional arts organizations like the Boston Watercolor Society and the Copley Society. Over the decades, his artwork has been collected by notable institutions, including the DeCordova Museum, Mellon Bank, and Johnson & Johnson. O’Neil eventually relocated to Lubec, Maine, where he established the James O’Neil Gallery in 2017 to showcase his original landscape paintings.
