Jaime Romero was born on June 14th, 1961, in San José de Minas, Ecuador. He studied plastic arts in his teens at the School of Fine Arts of the Central University (Faculty of Arts), and developed an expressionist style of painting, often populating his images with children and symbols of hope. In 1992 he worked at an exclusive workshop in Berlin, where he exchanged techniques with the German artist Peter Echulse, demonstrating his versatility at an exhibition in Bonn, Germany that garnered him international acclaim. Returning to Quito, Ecuador to set up a permanent studio, he has nevertheless maintained relations with numerous artists, galleries, and historians around the world, considered a pivotal voice in the modern art of his country.
