This is an unsigned lithograph by Jacques Villon, a FRench painter and printmaker who became known for his Cubist-style works; he was also the older brother of Marcel Duchamp, another noted French artist. Jacques briefly attended law school, then dropped out to study art in Paris. He worked at a newspaper doing graphics, cartoons, and posters, then exhibited with a group of modernists painters who became known as the Fauves - the wild beasts - because their works were abstract and done in bold colors. Eventually he turned to drypoint and intaglio, and won awards like the Carnegie Prize in 1950. He and his brothers would meet with other artists such as Alexander Calder and Fernand Leger and became known as the Puteaux Group. The overall size is 12 x 15 in. wide and the sight size is 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 in. wide.
