Jack Dowd (born 1938) is an American sculptor and painter known for his life‑size, character‑rich figures that blend social realism with whimsy, humor, and a touch of folk and avant‑garde influence. Born in New York, he began sketching at an early age and took up sculpting in the 1970s, initially working with wood and later using wire mesh and clay to create models that he cast in bronze or gypsum cement. Based in Sarasota, Florida, where he works from his private Moon River studio, Dowd’s work often depicts everyday people, artists, and cultural icons with affectionate satire and human insight; his pieces have been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States and are recognized in Who’s Who in American Art.
