Jack Davis (1923-2011) American, figural abstract in the manner of Kandinsky. Signed and dated 2000. Jack is known for abstract painting and teaching. A core factor in his creation of a painting is that, unlike most people, he cannot visualize. Therefore, his first encounter with the canvas is a random aciton infused with uncertainty. From there, the initial action leads to reactions in which he must trust his brush to expand the uncertainty into a synthesis. This process of action, reaction, and synthesis may take weeks, or even years. Jack says he interacts with the art until he arrives at a painting that seems large and free and right, in which the initial beginning has been transformed into an experience akin to his feeling for nature.
