Artist Biography:
Henry Sandham (1842–1910) was a Canadian painter and illustrator known for his contributions to historical and genre art. Born in Montreal, he trained under the artist John Allan and later became a prominent figure in the Canadian art scene, co-founding the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Sandham’s work spanned various media, including oil painting, watercolor, and illustration, often focusing on Canadian history, landscapes, and portraiture. He was also known for his detailed illustrations for books and magazines, particularly for Harper's Weekly. Sandham moved to Boston later in life, where he continued his artistic career, leaving a legacy of works that captured both the everyday life and significant moments in Canadian and American history.
