Italian Della Robbia Style Madonna and Child Glazed Pottery Plaque. Marked on the back "Saca 226 Made in Italy." 

Size: 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 2 in. 

Della Robbia refers primarily to a Florentine family of Renaissance artists, famed for inventing and mastering tin-glazed terracotta sculpture, led by Luca della Robbia (1400-1482). Their works were known for vibrant blue, white, green, and yellow religious figures that were frequently hung or mounted outdoors. This sculptural tradition, passed down through his nephew Andrea and his descendants, became a signature of Florence, producing durable, colorful artworks that are now reproduced by many artisans throughout the city. The name was also utilized by a modern American furniture brand, Dellarobbia, which creates contemporary handcrafted sofas and furnishings, directly inspired by these works.
