Indonesian Folk Art Whimsical Hand Carved and Painted Wood Frog Sculpture. The leaf he is holding like an umbrella can come off the stem. 

Condition: Cracks throughout. Chip on edge of leaf umbrella. 

Size: 9 1/2 x 8 x 18 1/4 in. 

Indonesian folk art, usually through woodcarving and early stonecutting, has been around for over a thousand years, and has flourished due to the modern tourist market, particularly around Bali. Tribal art woodcarvings of Asmat, Dayak, Nias, and Toraja areas are the best known, and often more refined, but the technique has spread to industrial and commercial centers like Jepara in Central Java. Mas village, near the cultural hub of the nation, Ubud, is renowned for their wood carving art, which differs significantly from the other regions partially due to the strong European influence on the arts in the region since the early 20th Century.
