In the Style of Emile Galle (1846-1904) French, Art Nouveau Cameo Glass Vase. Cream and blue tones in the main body, with butterflies and floral shapes. The signature on the upper middle area is unusual, suggesting this may have been made from a later mold of his original work.

Emile Gallé (1846-1904) was a French artist and industrialist who was a leading figure of the Art Nouveau movement, particularly in glassware. Born in Nancy, he was the son of a glassware and ceramics merchant, and his early artistic influences came from his studies in philosophy and natural science, as well as his close observations of plants, flowers, and insects. He honed his technical skills while apprenticing at a German glass factory and later took over his father’s firm in 1874, with his early works featured at the Paris Universal Exposition, but it was his work in the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition and the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition that brought him international acclaim. He was a master of various techniques, including cameo glass and marquetry, and his work was characterized by naturalistic and floral motifs. In 1901, he founded the École de Nancy (Nancy School), a collective of Art Nouveau artists, and his firm continued after his death but was unable to keep up with changing styles and closed in 1931. Today, his work is highly sought after by collectors, and he is considered the father of the Art Nouveau glass movement.
