Ida Marie Perrault (ca. 1872 – 1929) was an American painter, illustrator, and printmaker who built a prominent reputation for her intimate depictions of child figures, domestic genre scenes, and botanical still lives. After studying at the Detroit School of Art, she traveled to Europe to train in Paris, Brussels, and Holland, an experience that heavily inspired her frequent paintings of Dutch children. Upon returning to Detroit, she established a downtown studio, culminating in a major 35-work solo exhibition at the Detroit Museum of Art in October 1911. Beyond traditional oil, watercolor, and pastel painting, Perrault was a highly versatile artist who crafted handmade cloth dolls, designed dioramas for the Detroit Children’s Museum, and earned distinct acclaim for her stylized, white-line color woodcuts of classic nursery rhymes, which she often produced in collaboration with her brother, Raoul Perrault.
