Hugo Daini (1919–1976) was an Italian-born sculptor who established his career in Venezuela after moving there in 1949. Trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, Daini became known for monumental public sculpture, particularly heroic representations of Venezuelan historical figures such as Simón Bolívar, Francisco de Miranda, José Antonio Páez, and Rafael Urdaneta. His major commissions included sculptures and reliefs for Caracas’s Paseo Los Próceres, the Monument to the First Republic in the National Pantheon, and a bronze statue of Bolívar in London’s Belgrave Square. Alongside this formal, monumental work, Daini produced smaller bronze sculptures characterized by an expressive treatment of the human figure, dynamic forms, and the creative use of negative space. He died in Caracas in 1976.
