Howard Terpning (b. 1927) is one of the most celebrated American Western painters and illustrators of the modern era. After studying at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and building a successful career as a commercial illustrator for major national publications, he transitioned full-time to fine art in the 1970s. Renowned for his meticulously researched depictions of 19th-century Plains Native American life, the Cowboy Artists of America member has earned numerous prestigious honors as a titan of contemporary Western art.
