Hermès International S.A. is a French luxury fashion house that was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermes in Paris to produce high-end harnesses and saddles. Since the 1950s its logo has been a depiction of a ducal horse-drawn carriage to honor this heritage. Their mastery of leather soon led them to expand into many lines, including silk goods, lifestyle accessories, home furnishings, perfumery, jewelry, watches, and ready-to-wear clothing. Their leather bags, particularly the Kelly in the 1930s and the Birkin from the 1980s onward, have become legendary symbols of luxury and class, and they remain one of the longest-operating family-owned businesses in France today.
