Founded in 1946 by Carroll and Mary Henkel and John Harris, Henkel Harris is a renowned, family-owned furniture manufacturer based in Winchester, Virginia. Known for handcrafting 18th and 19th Century heirloom reproductions out of premium cherry and mahogany, the brand proudly markets itself as creating “America’s Finest Furniture.” The company began in the Henkels’ basement, when they built a corner cabinet so massive it had to be sawed in half to fit through the door before being glued back together and successfully sold. Carroll handled sales while Mary managed the operations and accounting. After Carroll’s sudden passing in 1969, Mary took over, steering the company through decades of growth and international expansion until it was acquired by the Gum family in 2013, who ultimately chose to keep the factory in Winchester after much debate to preserve the legacy of the community.
