Helen Sawyer (1900-1999) American, Oil on Canvas, a framed liner, housed in a burnished gold frame. Signed in the lower left. Depicting a Florida landscape with dramatic clouded sky, and summer foliage in the foreground. Helen Alton Sawyer was born in Washington, D.C., her father was painter Wells M. Sawyer, with whom she studied as well as in New York City at National Academy of Design, and with painter Charles Hawthorne in Cape Cod. She and her husband, Jerry Farnsworth, founded an art school in 1940 at North Truro, Massachusetts. In 1943, they also founded an art school in Sarasota, Florida where the Ringling Brothers Circus had their headquarters. Both Sawyer and Farnsworth enjoyed robust careers in Sarasota painting circus scenes, portraiture, still life & landscapes. Overall size: 41 3/4 x 52 in. Sight size: 30 x 40 in.
