Harold Knorr (1918–1996) was a distinguished American landscape artist who became celebrated for his evocative depictions of the Florida wilderness. Often working with charcoal and monochromatic washes, he specialized in capturing the ethereal beauty of the state's wetlands, particularly the moss-draped cypress swamps and misty bayous of the Gulf Coast. His signature style frequently featured a small, solitary figure—a lone fisherman or traveler—set against the vast, towering scale of nature, a motif that emphasized the quiet solitude of the "Old Florida" landscape. Based for much of his career in the Sarasota and Venice areas, Knorr remained active until his passing in 1996, leaving behind a body of work that is highly prized by regional collectors for its atmospheric depth and romantic, almost haunting, portrayal of the Everglades.
