Guy MacCoy was born in Valley Falls, Kansas in October 1904. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1924-28, then furthered his education in Colorado Springs and New York at the Art Students League and Columbia University. He was a pupil of John Douglas Patrick, William Rosenbauer, Alexander Kostellow, and Anthony Angarola, focusing on abstract expressionism and serigraphs. In 1932 he began producing silk screen prints with his wife, Geno Pettit. He worked in the Federal Art Project painting murals before moving to Los Angeles in 1947 to co-found the Western Serigraph Society. He taught at the Otis Art Institute until retirement in 1965. MacCoy died in Los Angeles, California in March 1981.
