Guglielmo Righini (1908–1978) was an Italian astronomer and astrophysicist, rather than a visual artist, renowned for his pioneering contributions to solar physics and radio astronomy. Born in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, he graduated in physics from the University of Florence in 1930 and pursued his research at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, where he later succeeded his mentor, Giorgio Abetti, as director in 1953. Righini advanced the study of the Sun’s atmosphere, particularly its corona, and helped establish radio astronomy as an important field of research in Italy. He also participated in international solar-eclipse expeditions and promoted scientific collaboration across Europe. A professor at the University of Florence and a member of Italy’s leading scientific academies, Righini left a lasting legacy in modern astrophysics before his death in Florence in 1978.
