Little is known of the life of Italian artist Giuseppe Elettro. He was born in 1907, and based on his later works he survived Mussolini’s reign and both World Wars, but no exhibitions of his work have been uncovered, suggesting that he primarily painted and sold directly to people who passed him by while he worked. His work is almost exclusively city scenes in an Impressionist style, and reflect the life of the common people living their lives much as they had done for hundreds of years before the civil and political turmoil of the 20th Century. His work bears a striking similarity to that of Antonio DeVity, who studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, suggesting that they either both studied under the same master or were both heavily influenced by the techniques and principles of that academy.
