Gino Onesto (Born 1935) Italian, Signed and Dated Murano Glass Vase. Beautiful layered twist design with red, green, and yellow hues throughout. Inscribed in English and dated on the base: "To Martie Moss and Paul Rubin 1998 Gino Onesto."

Size: 9 1/2 x 7 x 13 in.

Gino Onesto was born on October 1st, 1935 on the island of Murano, the glass-making capital of the world near Venice, Italy. He left school in his early teens to work in the family glass workshop to help make ends meet, and apprenticed throughout the late 1940s and early 1950s before becoming a master glassmaker. In 1952 he joined Seguso Vetri d’Arte, working directly under Archimede and Angelo Seguso, and was quickly promoted to first assistant. In 1964 he was able to purchase a derelict building nearby and open his own studio, where he has worked ever since. His Murano glass remains one of the most popular forms with visiting tourists and dignitaries, emulating earlier styles while constantly innovating new designs. Today the business and day-to-day activities of Onesto Glass are run by his sons, Diego and Michele, but he continues to travel throughout Europe showcasing their works as well as crafting his own from time to time.
