Virginia “Ginger” L. Lacy was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island in 1954. She went to work for a company in Massachusetts right after high school, eventually pursuing a business degree in the 1980s that helped her advance to an administrative position. She retired early in the 2000s to return to Tiverton to care for her ailing father, and after his passing in 2006 she began to explore philanthropic and creative endeavors. Along with other retirees she started studying printmaking at the Newport Art Museum’s Coleman Center for Creative Studies. She developed a particular knack for solar plate printing, as well as crafting monotypes, paper lithographs, collage, and woodcuts. A core group of these senior artists, including Lacy, formed the Liberty Street Printmakers in 2012, who exhibited their work in numerous local galleries, including DeBlois, The Narrows, and Gallery 11. She became a patron and teaching artist with several different organizations, including the Mural Project for the Tiverton Public Library and the CORE Organization for Youth Outreach. By the late 2010s she was selling her own prints through her website and devoted most of her time to working on ecological preservation efforts as part of the Tiverton Comprehensive Land Use Plan. She became co-chair of the Tiverton Open Space Committee from 2016 to 2018, but since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic she has been out of the public eye, socially distancing and exploring new art and concepts in her home studio, including photography.
