Gilles Charbin (Born 1939) French, Art Glass Paperweight. Rich colorful swirls and shapes within the rounded form. Sticker attached to the bottom that reads "Creation Originale Charbin" and has a faded "Made in France" label affixed.

Condition: Excellent.

Size: 3 x 3 x 4 in.

Gilles Charbin was born in France in 1939. In the early 1960s, after studying at the Ecole des Métiers d’Art, he transferred to the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, from which he obtained his degree. In 1966 he began exhibiting his paintings at the Lyonnaise Jacques Verrières gallery, but in the late 60s he was introduced to art glass and started to devote himself more and more to the medium. Throughout the 70s his work shifted to favor resin sculptures, furniture, and decorative objects, and he became a key proponent of the Salon des Ateliers d’Art, Porte de Versailles in Paris, regularly holding solo exhibitions in Geneva and Milan. The early 80s saw him shift more into interior design, and his collaborations with architects and decorators can still be seen in modernist homes and apartments throughout France. By the mid 90s, however, he had retired from the spotlight due to burnout and growing health issues, and returned to painting, drawing, and frequently teaching out of his home studio in the 18th Arrondissement of Paris, where he still lives today.

Excellent.
