German Villeroy & Boch Porcelain Phanolith Plaque. Titled "Aurora," depicting an angelic horse-drawn procession, designed by Jean-Baptiste Stahl. This technique combined elements of jasperware and pâte-sur-pâte to create delicate relief work and varying translucency. Marked on back, along with the title and numbered 3868/5000 of a limited edition.

Villeroy & Boch, a German ceramics manufacturer headquartered in Mettlach, began in 1748 when François Boch and his sons established a pottery company in Lorraine. Initially fierce competitors, the Boch Company and Nicolas Villeroy merged in 1836 to avoid collapse, forming the unified company known for innovations like the semi-transparent porcelain Phanolith. Over time, the company adapted to upheavals and now operates two divisions—Dining & Lifestyle and Bathroom & Wellness—though it is no longer managed by family descendants.
