George Merritt Milton (1939-2008) House Painting
George Milton is a product of the reclusive Old South who has never been very afraid of venturing into the New World.
He has traveled extensively in Europe and the Mideast, studied and taught ancient cultures, published scholarly articles, befriended Lotte Lenya and helped found a thriving art scene in his adopted hometown of Tallahassee.
But mostly, he has painted.
Bom George Merritt Milton in 1918 in Marianna, Florida, he grew up in a house along "Silk Stocking Row" in a genteel setting of career housewives, manicured lawns and servant staffs. He is a direct descendant of John Milton, the governor of Florida during the Civil War.
