Gay Germain was born on Long Island, New York in 1943. She studied Airline Management in college and worked for many years as an Executive Recruiter for major companies, before transitioning into working as a headhunter for banks in the Manhattan Financial District in the late 1970s. In the early 1980s she first became interested in art when she took a sculpture class under Leonda Finke on a whim. The whim soon dominated her life, and she left the industry to study at the National Academy of Fine Art and later the Blackburn Printmaking Studio. Her mentor, Katherine Chang Liu, encouraged her to explore new locations to gain inspiration, and in 1990 she traveled to Denver, Colorado, where she opened a home studio she maintained until 2023. In 2003, after having taken additional art courses at the Ringling College of Art and Design, she opened another home studio in Sarasota, Florida, where she continues to make art to this day. Her paintings, collages, sculptures, and prints have been exhibited in public and corporate collections all over the world, with many galleries and museums in Florida regularly displaying her work.
