Gaspard Netscher (1639–1684), was a Dutch painter of the Baroque period known for his finely detailed genre scenes, portraits, and domestic interiors. A student of Gerard ter Borch, Netscher mastered the depiction of silk, lace, and delicate textures, bringing elegance and subtle emotional nuance to his work. Though born in Heidelberg, he trained and worked primarily in the Netherlands, especially in The Hague, where he became a respected portraitist for the upper class. His paintings often depict refined domestic life, music-making, and courtship scenes, capturing the manners and material culture of the Dutch Golden Age with a polished and intimate style. Netscher’s sons, notably Constantijn Netscher, also became painters, helping extend the family’s artistic legacy into the 18th century.
