Günther Kieser (1930–2023) was a German graphic designer, illustrator, sculptor, and educator whose innovative concert posters for jazz, blues, and rock musicians made him one of the most influential poster artists of the postwar era. After studying at the Offenbach Werkkunstschule and beginning his freelance career in 1949, he developed a distinctive visual language that combined photography, sculpture, collage, and surreal symbolism to evoke the sound and spirit of performers rather than simply advertise events. His iconic designs for artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, and Duke Ellington earned international acclaim, and his work has been exhibited in major museums and collections worldwide. Kieser also taught visual communication as a professor at University of Wuppertal, helping shape a new generation of designers while leaving a lasting legacy in graphic design and music-poster art.
